Thomas Hanson graduated from the University of Washington in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management.  Mr. Hanson has worked for International Forestry Consultants, Inc. for 37 years and has been a principal of INFO since 1978 and senior stock holder since 1996.

Mr. Hanson has experience as a field and administration forester with responsibilities including; silviculture prescriptions and implementation, forest inventory, variable plot cruising, timber marketing, harvest unit layout and design, forest practice permitting, and company management.  He has timber cruising and appraisal experience in seven western states.

Mr. Hanson is the manager of 55,000 acres of forestlands in Western Washington for non-resident owners.  For these he develops and implements forest management plans, including long range planning, budgeting, financial accounting, and general administration. Several of these tree farms are enrolled under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

He has conducted timber cruises and prepared narrative timber appraisals on hundreds of parcels throughout the state. He provides technical assistance to appraisers on timberlands, transition lands, and environmentally sensitive lands.  Some of his clients include the Washington Dept. of Natural Resources, Dept. of Fish & Game and Dept. of Parks & Recreation; The States of Utah and Alaska; Alaska Native Village Corps., Internal Revenue Service, and private landowners.

As an ISA certified arborist (PN0426A), Mr. Hanson conducts hazard tree analysis and valuations of urban trees for homeowners, insurance companies and public jurisdictions and provides expert witness services as needed.  He develops residential tree protection plans and vegetation management plans.   An example of this work is the vegetation management plan for Seward Park in Seattle. He has provided education services to Campfire USA and University of Washington Arbor Day.

He is accredited as a Certified Forester by the Society of American Foresters (Cert. #951) and is a licensed real estate broker (Washington State license #3599).  He is a member of the Washington Forest Protection Association Board of Trustees. Other professional memberships include the Society of American Foresters, the Association of Consulting Foresters, the Association of Consulting Arborists, and the International Society of Arboriculture. He is a board member of the Black Mountain Forestry Center, and President of the University of Washington School of Forest Resources Alumni Association.  He is a Trained Forest Stewardship Assessor (Smartwood), Accredited Group Certification Auditor (American Tree Farm System), and has ISA and ASCA periodic CEU Credits.
